Interval-Type and Affine Arithmetic-Type Techniques for Handling Uncertainty in Expert Systems, with Applications to Geoinformatics and Computer Security

چکیده
Expert knowledge consists of statements Sj (facts and rules). The expert’s degree of confidence in each statement Sj can be described as a (subjective) probability (some probabilities are known to be independent). Examples: if we are interested in oil, we should look at seismic data (confidence 90%); a bank A trusts a client B, so if we trust A, we should trust B too (confidence 99%). If a query Q is deducible from facts and rules, what is our confidence p(Q) in Q? We can describe Q as a propositional formula F in terms of Sj ; computing p(Q) exactly is NP-hard, so heuristics are needed. Traditionally, expert systems use technique similar to straightforward interval computations: we parse F and replace each computation step with corresponding probability operation. Problem: at each step, we ignore

متن کاملApplication-motivated combinations of fuzzy, interval and probability approaches, and their use in geoinformatics, bioinformatics and engineering
Most data processing techniques traditionally used in scientific and engineering practice are statistical. These techniques are based on the assumption that we know the probability distributions of measurement errors etc. In practice, often, we do not know the distributions, we only know the bound ∆ on the measurement accuracy – hence, after the get the measurement result e x, the only informat...
متن کاملMultiple attribute group decision making with linguistic variables and complete unknown weight information
Interval type-2 fuzzy sets, each of which is characterized by the footprint of uncertainty, are a very useful means to depict the linguistic information in the process of decision making. In this article, we investigate the group decision making problems in which all the linguistic information provided by the decision makers is expressed as interval type-2 fuzzy decision matrices where each of ...
متن کاملINTEGRABILITY OF AN INTERVAL-VALUED MULTIFUNCTION WITH RESPECT TO AN INTERVAL-VALUED SET MULTIFUNCTION
Intervals are related to the representation of uncertainty. In this sense, we introduce an integral of Gould type for an interval-valued multifunction relative to an interval-valued set multifunction, with respect to Guo and Zhang order relation. Classicaland specific properties of this new type of integral are established and several examples and applications from multicriteria decision making...
متن کاملInterval-Type and Affine Arithmetic-Type Techniques for Handling Uncertainty in Expert Systems
Expert knowledge consists of statements Sj (facts and rules). The facts and rules are often only true with some probability. For example, if we are interested in oil, we should look at seismic data. If in 90% of the cases, the seismic data was indeed helpful in locating oil, then we can say that if we are interested in oil, then with probability 90% it is helpful to look at the seismic data. In...
